Wyoming Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)
Overview:
The Wyoming Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) provides a federal income tax incentive for employers who hire individuals from targeted groups that face barriers to employment. The credit rewards employers based on the number of hours the employee works in their first year.
Who It’s For:
Wyoming employers hiring eligible individuals from approved WOTC target groups, including ex-felons, public assistance recipients, and long-term unemployed job seekers.
Four Key Highlights:

Eligible Target Groups Include Veterans & Disadvantaged Workers
Qualifying hires must belong to specific groups, such as ex-felons, SSI/SNAP/TANF recipients, long-term unemployed, or vocational rehabilitation referrals. Veterans not receiving SNAP or disability benefits may also qualify. -
Credit Depends on Hours Worked

120–399 hours: 25% of first $6,000 in wages (up to $1,500)

400+ hours: 40% of first $6,000 (up to $2,400)

No credit for under 120 hours

Certain Individuals Are Ineligible
Rehires, relatives or dependents of the business owner, and veterans receiving SNAP, disability, or those unemployed are not eligible for WOTC. -
Application Deadline is 28 Days Post-Hire
Employers must submit IRS Form 8850 and ETA Form 9061 within 28 calendar days after the employee’s start date—preferably through Wyoming’s electronic WOTC portal.
