New Hampshire

New Hampshire Education Tax Credit (ETC) Program

Overview:
New Hampshire’s Education Tax Credit Program offers an 85% state tax credit to individuals and businesses that donate to approved scholarship organizations. Donations support education access for low-income students, and credits can be applied to Business Profits, Business Enterprise, or Interest & Dividends taxes.

Who It’s For:
Businesses subject to Business Profits or Enterprise Taxes, and individuals or entities liable for Interest & Dividends Tax in New Hampshire.

Four Key Highlights:

  1. 85% Credit for Educational Donations
    Donors receive a tax credit worth 85% of their contribution to an approved scholarship organization.

  2. Applies to Multiple Tax Types
    Credit can be used against Business Profits Tax (BPT), Business Enterprise Tax (BET), or Interest & Dividends Tax (I&D).

  3. Carryforward Options for Businesses
    Unused BPT and BET credits can be carried forward for up to 5 years (I&D credits must be used the same year).

  4. Donation Limits & Annual Cap
    Businesses may donate up to $600,000 annually, with a maximum claimable credit of $1,000,000 per year across all eligible tax types.

New Hampshire Work-Based Learning Tax Credit (SB270)

Overview:
The SB270 Work-Based Learning Tax Credit incentivizes New Hampshire businesses to support Career & Technical Education (CTE) by offering tax credits for contributing wages, training costs, or equipment. The credit is applied against the Business Profits Tax and encourages workforce development through hands-on student training and education support.

Who It’s For:
New Hampshire businesses that partner with CTE centers through student internships, apprenticeships, training programs, or educational donations.

Four Key Highlights:

  1. Up to 50% Credit on Wages & Training Costs
    Covers half of salaries for CTE student interns and their supervisors, plus employee-led training or apprenticeship programs.

  2. 100% Credit for Donated Equipment
    Businesses can claim full credit for the value of tangible supplies and equipment donated for CTE instructional use.

  3. Annual Application & Reporting Requirements
    Donations must be documented by June 30, with a Letter of Donation issued by September 1 and credits reported to Revenue by October 1.

  4. Credit Applied to Business Profits Tax
    Businesses apply this incentive directly against their BPT liability, helping reduce taxes while investing in workforce development.

New Hampshire Economic Revitalization Zone (ERZ) Tax Credit

Overview:
The ERZ Tax Credit incentivizes job creation and capital investment in designated revitalization zones across New Hampshire. Businesses can earn up to $40,000 annually—maxing out at $200,000 over five years—by creating new full-time jobs and investing in infrastructure or equipment.

Who It’s For:
New Hampshire businesses that are expanding or renovating within designated ERZs and creating new full-time jobs in the same calendar year.

Four Key Highlights:

  1. Dual Requirement for Eligibility
    Businesses must create at least one new full-time job and make a capital investment within the same calendar year to qualify.

  2. Tiered Job Credit by Wage Level
    Earn 4–6% of each new employee’s salary based on their wage bracket—more credit for higher-paying jobs.

  3. Capital Investment Credit Up to 4%
    Claim 4% of eligible costs like equipment purchases or renovations—capped at $20,000 per new job created.

  4. $200K Lifetime Cap & Firm Deadlines
    Maximum $40K/year, $200K total. Applications must be postmarked by February 10 annually—no exceptions for late submissions.

New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) Tax Credit

Overview:
The CDFA Tax Credit Program offers New Hampshire businesses a 75% state tax credit for donating to approved community development projects. Contributions support local nonprofits while providing significant tax relief and potential charitable deductions.
